The city is about 34 km from the circuit and is connected by a direct regional train, the Trenord R14 line, which stops at Monza station without changes. From there, the Black Shuttle goes to the autodrome. It is suitable for those staying at least two nights and travelling as a couple or family.

Edited by Giulia, host of Magic Place Bergamo, based on direct experience in welcoming guests during the Monza Grand Prix · Updated 27 August 2026 · Race: 4-6 September 2026

Note: train timetables, shuttles, access rules, car parks and special traffic arrangements are subject to change at the very last minute. We are telling you this even if it means not hosting you.

The race weekend numbers

Here are the essential details for organising the 2026 Italian Grand Prix from Bergamo.

Gara

Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September 2026, Autodromo Nazionale Monza

Expected turnout

The 2025 event attracted 369,041 visitors over the three days, according to figures from SIAS Autodromo Nazionale Monza, representing an increase of over 10% on the previous year (ACI); very high passenger flows are also expected in 2026, especially on Sundays.

Distance Bergamo → Autodromo di Monza

approximately 34 km

Direct train Bergamo–Monza

Trenord R14 line Bergamo–Carnate–Milano Porta Garibaldi

Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY) → Bergamo city centre

about 10 minutes by car

Magic Place Apartments → Bergamo station

10 minutes' walk from Via Sant'Alessandro

Door-to-door travel time, Bergamo → circuit

calculate 2 hours in the race weekend

The chain that makes Bergamo manageable is this: flat in the centre, a ten-minute walk to the station, direct train to Monza. No car, no changes, no parking to book.

From Bergamo airport to the flat: the first evening

Milan Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport It is just a few kilometres from the centre, about ten minutes by car. Basically: you land at 21:40, by 22:15 you are in the apartment, and by 22:45 you are sitting in Città Alta with a plate in front of you.

This is the tangible difference compared to Linate or Malpensa, where between the train, connection and transfer, you waste your first evening. It is also the reason why many of our guests book a Thursday flight instead of Friday morning: you gain a whole evening without paying for it in fatigue. In 2026, by the way, Thursday is not a quiet day: the Monza FuoriGP programme opens on 3 September, with the Fanzone and city events already active from the eve.

Three things we are always asked about arriving in Bergamo:

Airport transfer: The taxi queue at 23:00 on Thursday, during the GP week, can be long. We organise private transfers to and from Orio al Serio: if you are landing after 22:00, request it along with your stay.

Check-in: Self check-in is independent, so there is no time limit. No one is staying up waiting for you and you do not need to rush.

Shopping: The supermarkets in the centre close at around 22:00. If you arrive late, we can leave the groceries in your apartment: this is especially useful for organising packed lunches on race days.

How to get from Bergamo to the Autodromo di Monza

From Bergamo to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza it is about 34 km and there are two ways that work: the regional train and a chauffeured car. A third, your own car, seems like a good idea but isn't.

By train: the right choice for most people

The Trenord regional line R14 Bergamo–Carnate–Milano Porta Garibaldi stops at Monza station. There is no need to go via Milan and there is no need to change. From our apartments in Via Sant’Alessandro, Bergamo station is a ten-minute walk away, so your day begins without a car.

This is not a minor detail: the regional lines to Bergamo are among those reinforced during the race weekend, alongside the special services reaching Monza stations during the morning. Bergamo, in other words, is already included in the Grand Prix transport plan.

The ticket needed by those departing from Bergamo is not the one promoted by Milan. For 2026, Trenord proposes the GP Monza Trenord Day Passreturn ticket valid from all over Lombardy to the stations of Monza and usable on all three days of the event, with under-14s travelling free if accompanied by an adult. The combined train and shuttle ticket for 10 euros, on the other hand, departs from the Milan stations and does not cover Bergamo. Updated prices and conditions are on the Trenord page dedicated to the Grand Prix.

From Monza station to the racetrack there is a Black Shuttle of Monza Mobilità, which departs from the station's outer forecourt, at the exit of platform 7, and arrives at Gate G. In 2025 it carried over 62,000 passengers over the three days, so it is not a minor service. Alternatively, there is the pedestrian route along Monza Park for those who want to walk. The timetables for the race weekend are not the usual ones: they must be checked on the Autodrome page dedicated to how to get to the circuit the week before.

What to really expect: on Sunday morning the train is full of people with Ferrari flags, and that’s not a problem, it’s half the fun. The Sunday evening return is the uncomfortable part, because with a peak of around 115,000 spectators on race day alone, almost everyone leaves at the same time. If you can, wait an hour inside the park instead of queuing up right away.

Chauffeur-driven car: when you really need it

The private transfer from Bergamo to Monza makes sense in three cases: small children, strict access times (Paddock Club, corporate hospitality), or an evening return that you want to manage without changes.

What a transfer no It's about beating the traffic. Nobody beats Monza traffic on Grand Prix Sunday. What it does is remove the friction points: no queues at the ticket office, no changes, a fixed seat where they're waiting for you on the return trip, and someone to call if something goes wrong. You book in advance, because by Friday all the available drivers in the area are already booked up.

By car: the choice that seems good

It is the option we are asked for most often and the one we advise against most often. Around the circuit, Monza Mobilità arranges about 9,000 parking spaces identified by colour and distance from the gates: the Green one about 500 metres from Gates C and D, the White one 600 metres from Gate C, Gold and Platinum around a kilometre (Daily MotorsThey must be booked in advance via the official portal, and anyone who arrives without a booking wastes time before even getting inside.

To this are added the road closures, which every year affect not only Monza but also Biassono, Lesmo, Lissone, Vedano al Lambro and Villasanta, with prohibitions starting from Thursday (MonzaTodayIf you already have a car, it's fine for getting to Bergamo and leaving again: the partnered car park is 200 metres from the apartments. To get to the track, no.

What to bring to a race track: heat, noise and entry rules

A day in the grandstands at Monza in early September calls for four things that almost no one anticipates.

The heat. In early September in Monza, temperatures often exceed 25 degrees and there is little shade in the stands. A hat and sunscreen are not minor details: the race lasts almost two hours and the sun beats down from midday.

The noise. The racing cars are less deafening than they used to be, but they are still loud. With small children, ear defenders are practically compulsory. Bring them from home or use the ones provided in your Magic Place apartment: the ones sold outside the gates cost a lot more.

What you can bring inside. In recent editions, the regulations have permitted backpacks and bags up to 15 litres and beverage containers up to 500 ml (Automoto.it). These are rules that change every year: before leaving, they must be checked on the official website of the Autodrome. Filling your water bottle before entering saves you queues and quite a few euros.

Lunch. Prepare it the night before. In the apartment you have a fitted kitchen, and half an hour of homemade sandwiches is worth more than any advice on queue management.

Which apartment to choose based on how you travel

Not every flat is suited to the same weekend. This is the template we use when they write to us about the GP.

How do you travel

Apartment

Why

Couple, logistics first

Relax o Elegant, city centre

A ten-minute walk from the station. It is the thing guests talk to us about the most when they hand back the keys. For funicular timetables, museums and current exhibitions, the point of reference is Visit Bergamo.

What they usually do, in order: funicular, walk along the walls around seven for the light, aperitif in the square, dinner in a traditional trattoria with casoncelli and polenta taragna. On Saturday night Città Alta is lively until late; Sunday is quieter, which after ten hours at the racing circuit is no bad thing.

If you have Monday off: Lake Iseo is forty minutes away, Como an hour, the Brembana Valley half an hour. None of these are accessible with the same ease from Milan. Those who stay within the walls usually choose Namaste in Città Alta, which lends itself to a longer stay.

What we do during the Grand Prix weekend

Nothing heroic, but these are the things that remove friction:

Private transfer and to Orio al Serio airport, and upon request to Monza, with the time and meeting point confirmed in advance.

Left luggage after check-out: on Sunday you leave the apartment in the morning, spend the day at the race track and collect your cases before leaving.

Home shopping to organise breakfasts and packed lunches without wasting time.

24-hour support in Italian, English and German, even on a Sunday evening when you are in a queue and want to know if the train has already gone.

Partner car park at 200 metres, if you arrive by car.

If you ask us where to eat, we will tell you a specific place and book it, instead of sending you a list of ten.

The apartments have a fitted kitchen, air conditioning and Wi-Fi that can handle a call. The practical advantage over a hotel, for a weekend like this, is having separate spaces and being able to manage different schedules between those who go to the track and those who stay in the city.

Check availability and rates for 3-7 September 2026

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take from Bergamo to the Monza Circuit?

From Bergamo to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza you can get there by regional train as far as Monza station, then take the Black Shuttle (Navetta Nera) to Gate G. During the Grand Prix weekend journey times are longer than on an ordinary day, especially on the return journey on Sunday evening. If you have a schedule to keep, allow two hours door-to-door.

Is the train from Bergamo to Monza direct?

Yes. The Trenord R14 regional line Bergamo–Carnate–Milano Porta Garibaldi stops at Monza station without changes. In the Grand Prix mobility plans, regional lines towards Bergamo are reinforced, and Trenord publishes the timetables and special tickets for the race weekend on a dedicated page.

Which train ticket is best if I'm leaving from Bergamo?

The Monza GP Trenord Day Pass, which provides a return journey from anywhere in Lombardy to Monza stations and is valid for all three days of the event, with under 14s travelling free if accompanied by an adult. On the other hand, the 10 euro combined train and Black Shuttle ticket is for those setting off from Milan stations, so it is not the right one for those staying in Bergamo.

What can be brought inside the Monza circuit?

In recent editions, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza regulations have permitted backpacks and bags up to 15 litres and drink containers up to 500 ml. The rules change every year: they must be checked on the official website of the circuit before departure.

Is it worth hiring a car for the Monza Grand Prix?

To get to the race track, no: the car parks around the circuit must be booked in advance and the traffic system is regulated for the whole weekend, with closures that also affect the surrounding municipalities. If you want to see Lake Iseo or the Bergamo valleys in the days before or after the race, yes, but only hire a car for those days.

Can you go to the Monza Grand Prix with children?

Yes, and we see a lot of them. Noise-cancelling headphones, a hat, water and a plan B for the afternoon are needed: younger children rarely last the whole day in the grandstand. Many families only do the Saturday at the circuit and watch Sunday's race in the city. For those travelling with children, the’Buk apartment in Città Alta It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Where can I leave my luggage on race Sunday?

Magic Place Bergamo offers luggage storage after check-out.
